Wantok is a new work that brings cheeky, family-friendly comedy and cultural insights from Australia and Papua New Guinea (PNG) to public spaces across Birmingham throughout August 2022. Presented in partnership with Coventry-based Open Theatre, the show features antipoden performers Alyson Joyce and Sean Murphy, combining with local Young People with Learning Disabilities. This is theatre done differently: outdoors, interactive and accessible to all. A riotous reimagining of Australia-Pacific traditions, WANTOK is suitable for audiences of all ages. Everyone is welcome to come laugh, dance and sing – or just watch on – as the irrepressible energy of the Antipodes comes to Brum.
Throughout its development, Wantok has received funding support from the Australia Council, Arts Queensland and the British Council.
