Choreographed by Rafael Bonachela, Years features solos from the incredible dancers of Sydney Dance Company, set to esteemed Australian musician Stephen Emmerson’s reimagining of Bach’s ‘Goldberg Variations’ as a dialogue for two pianos performed with celebrated Australian pianist Sonya Lifschitz.
Conceived as a film dance work in lockdown, Years delves deep into the essence of movement and musicality.
Years was produced in partnership by Sydney Dance Company and Collider films. Directed by Clemens Habicht with DOP Florian Emmerich with renowned collaborator Bianca Spender for Costume. Years sees Bonachela reflect on echoes of the past to find clarity at the heart of a turbulent world.
Years was first released: 4 – 6 November (Australia & UK) in 2021 and was featured at the Brighton Digital Film Festival. More UK screenings coming soon.
