Acknowledgement of Country

Overview:

The arrival of the British Empire and the declaration of terra nullius of Australia displaced Aboriginal peoples from their native landscape and bore witness to a battleground. Today this landscape bears no such history of its colonial past but holds witness to these sites of trauma and memory.

Birlabrri (2021), a short artist film, features Elvie, Myra and Mavis Dann, three female Elders on Yamaji country. The Elders return to their ancestral home to narrate stories of their childhood, connection to country and familial histories.
