Described by Sir Simon Rattle as ‘one of the greatest orchestras in the world,’ the Australian World Orchestra (AWO) comprises over 80 of Australia’s top musicians called up from the world’s top orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, the Munich Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and in the UK the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra.
The programmes in both Edinburgh and London will feature Anton Webern’s Passacaglia and Six pieces for Orchestra (1928 revised version), as well as Dvořák’s Symphony 7, and Brahms’ Symphony No. 2, respectively. Both performances will also feature Debussy’s Ariettes oubliées in an arrangement by the Australian composer Brett Dean, sung by the Australian soprano Siobhan Stagg.
Both concerts will be conducted by one of the world’s top conductors, the legendary maestro Zubin Mehta.
